Tears and Laughter

A life beyond transition

Welcome to my online journal, which I started in December 2002 after several very persuasive hints from friends. Although I obviously don't write about everything that happens in my life here, I hope it'll provide an insight into who I am and what's happening in my life - whether good, bad, happy or sad.

If you want to post a comment about anything I've written, please feel free to do so. The only posts I'll delete are malicious or offensive ones.

Update (18.4.2008): I've suspended comments on this journal as a direct result of abuse by spambots. Once I've found a way to stop the spambots causing disruption, I'll consider turning comments back on.

One last small step

On Monday I took what is arguably the last step on my transition and (finally!) sent off my application for a UK Gender Recogition Certificate (also known as a GRC).

I have to admit that despite all the hassle of getting the paperwork together (two medical reports, evidence of my change of name and the date of my transition, medical certificates relating to my surgery and decree absolute, all together with a statutory declaration witnessed by a solicitor) the whole process has - so far - seems reasonably straightforward. The application form itself was quite clear and not difficult to complete...I think what makes it daunting is what it represents.

Amazingly enough, I received the confirmation of my application from the Gender Recognition Panel yesterday - just three days after sending it!

Now the wait begins. I imagine it will take a couple of months or so for the GRP to process it, especially given the large number of applications they have received over the past few months.

A friend in need

Beth and I are in shock right now. Last night we heard that Jo Sinclair - a close friend of ours - in in hospital after suffering a stroke on Sunday. Ironically, we visited Jo and her wife Judith just two weeks ago.

If you know Jo, please spare a thought or a prayer for her and Judith in their hour of need.
