Welcome to my blog, which I started way back in December 2002 - long before social media was a thing! With the advent of Facebook, Twitter etc. I don't write that often here now, but you never know when I might feel the urge to do so.

Off to Brighton again

Sunday, May 21, 2006

Brighton is one of many places I have some past links with. Not only do I have friends there (as does Beth, oincidentally) but it's also the town that's home to S.C.U.M. (South Coast Unaffiliated Mercenaries), who have got to be the biggest bunch of camera happy flirts on the re-enactment circuit.

I haven't been there for a few months, but this Saturday we arranged to travel down there to visit my friend Sarah, who I haven't seen for absolutely ages (not since I was in Kent in December 2003 recovering from my surgery, in fact). In short, it's a long overdue visit.

Rather than drive there we thought it would be a good idea to take a train instead. After all, it's a major destination, right?

As ever, there was a snag. First of all, we couldn't find any direct trains (annoying but not fatal. Never mind). Then, when we arrived at the station with 5 minutes to spare, we found that not only was there only one window open at the ticket office (with a consequently huge queue) but the ticket machines on the platform were only accepting cash, not cards. Back to plan B - driving again. Quite honestly, if Government wonder why people aren't using public transport they obviously haven't tried themselves.

When we finally arrived in town we rendezvoused with our friend Tanya (who lives nearby) and went for a leasurely lunch at the Mint Restaurant Music Bar, which I can definitely recommend if you like good vegetarian cuisine.

Sarah lives in Hove, so it seemed like a good idea to leave the car where it was and walk there. However, after half an hour of hobbling up the road towards Hove (my left food was hurting; I think I'd pulled a tendon or something) I was starting to curse the idea!

Nevertheless, we got there in the end. It was great to see Sarah again...we had so much catching up to do!

After we discovered that Sarah had guest parking at her place (we really did ad-lib this visit) Beth decided to indulge her running habit (well what do you expect from the daughter of a tri-athlete? ) by running back into town to pick up the car. She was remarkably quick too...

By the time we left it was starting to get dark. A long day, but a fun one.
